A 2.3.2 - 3.0.5 Recovery Issue

• Jun 23, 2019 - 02:15

So, I have both 2.3.2 and the 3.0.5 appimage installed on my computer (I'm running Ubuntu 16.04). I just recently downloaded 3.0.5.

I opened a score from 2 in 3, and made some changes, as well as saved it. The title on the actual sheet was different from 2's .mscz file name, so rather than "Koi Pond Syncopations", the title in 3 was "Allora". I had locked Musescore 3 to the launcher previously to this.

My computer died last night. When I started it up after it was charged, Musescore 3 was not visible on my launcher (the little bar on the left of the screen.) When I opened the appimage in my files, I did not receive a "previous session quit unexpectedly" restore message. Now, I cannot find any file in the program or in my files alike with the name "Allora" or the changes I had made. The original "KPS" file is still visible in both 2 & 3. I'm also not sure if retitling the file in 3 actually changed the file?

I know that there are many tutorials on recovering lost files, but they didn't work for me. Is there any way in which I could recover the edited file? Sorry if this is more basic a problem than I realize, and thanks for your help!

Good news! I have found two (seemingly identical) copies of "Allora". They are ZIP packages, but the .mscx file is in there.

On a side note, this type of thing has happened to me while exclusively using 2.3.2. A file which was open as the computer died survived only as a zip package with an uncompressed Musescore file, and not visible in the program itself. Nonetheless, I'm thankful that it still preserves the file.

The only problem now is opening the file. There are options within the archive manager, but not Musescore for some reason.

Thanks for your help!
