Mission Impossible? Trying to install MuseScore 3.2

• Jun 25, 2019 - 17:47

system: Windows10 64bit.
My first attempt to download 3.2 failed after about 6 MB. Well that happens sometimes, and a restart usually fixes it. I restarted and repeated the download, but after going through about 6 pages of the install wizard I get the message:

"Another installation is in progress. You must complete the other installation before continuing this one."

The trouble is that I can not find a way to access the purported "other installation". Clicking Cancel cancels the present installation, and so does killing the Windows Installer in Task Manager (ctrl-alt-delete). What is more, the installation data isn't stored. After restarting, I am forced to re-download the whole 160 MB again, It's useless anyway because the same happens all over again.

Am I missing something here?

Found a workaround!

I was restarting the installation process with the MuseScore Help/Check for Update menu option. I presume MuseScore needs to close in order to allow the install, but closing it has the same effect as Cancel etc. above: end of installation. This time I killed MuseScore 3.1 using the Task Manager instead of closing it normally. Then I was able to continue the installation successfully with Retry.

Suggested improvements:
1. don't let closing MuseScore cancel the ongoing installation.
2. change the "Another installation is in progress..." message to:
"Please close MuseScore before continuing installation of the new version."

Thanks for your reply.

That didn't happen for me. But if my observations aren't helpful for making the installation process more robust, so be it.

Version 3.2 is up and running and I am looking forward to the improvements. The Play panel still won't stay docked between MS runs, but that is a fairly minor irritation which I hope will get fixed some day. It's nice to see the Mixer panel docked and ready to use!
