sounds: brass and percussion

• Jun 28, 2019 - 12:14

I am rather new to musescore. I am using the playback function to judge my compositions. I write mostly jazz and latin music. I find the wind instruments and percussion not of great sound quality. I used to have a Roland MGS64 which did sound better. Is it possible to improve the sounds? The trumpet sounds thin, the trombone speaks to slowly which interrupts the flow of the music, the saxes sound close to a blues harp. Is this my sound card? Is this muse score? Or can I download better sounds?
In the percussion section I miss some sounds: I have only 3 conga sounds while a conga player can play at least five for each drum (bass, muffle, slap, tone, open slap). Is it possible to download those? Also I would like to have more cowbells than one? Can I find these somewhere? Or can I edit sounds to imitate the sounds I need? El_Manisero.mscz

There are both free and paid soundfonts out on the web for most everything. I'm not a soundfont expert, but there are several on the forums and someone will no doubt comment about some of the specific things you have mentioned. You do have the ability to create soundfonts using a free utility like Audacity from .wav files of sounds so creating your own sound font is not out of the question. If you are technical enough, you can use MuseScore to make a very nice congo part with all of the sounds you want. If you run into a roadblock with musescore itself several of the programmers and other users frequent the forums and will happily give advice on how to procede.
