Negative measure numbers

• Jun 30, 2019 - 00:44

Getting negative measure numbers on a score downloaded off of musescore site (wanted to adjust spacing) when inserting the [section break] mark from [Breaks and Spacers]. There are positive numbers up till the break, then after it goes negative. I have additional issues with this score, such as page breaks not applying to vertical frames, would love if someone could help with that too :)
Score is attached.

The person who made this didn't use a section break at the end of movements. If you add a section break to the last measure before each movement, you can then change the add to measure count back to 0.

I have no idea what you mean about the page breaks and vertical frames. If you apply a page break to a vertical frame, the music will not start until the next page, this is by design.

I was putting section breaks in to do exactly that, the issue is that the section breaks caused the negative numbers. As for the vertical frames, what you describe is exactly what I want to happen, but if you go to put one on any existing frame in that score, it doesn't do anything. It won't apply to the frame at all. (I'm wondering if the musescore site keeps its files still in musescore 2.0 form, and these are just side effects of references to indexes and etc that don't exist anymore? Don't quote me, I'm not great at programming)

Section breaks don't cause negative measure numbers, they do cause the measure numbering to restart from 0. It is the measure number offset (-127) of the 1st measure after the section break that causes this, probably a remnant of the days before section breaks existed, or in ignorance of that feature

I guess I wasn't clear enough. The first measure in the second movement has "Add to measure count" set at -127 in measure properties. The person who created the file didn't know about system breaks resetting measure count to 1, so after you insert a system break, you need to reset that "Add to measure count" to 0. This will fix your measure numbers.
