Music Notation Shorthand?
Could anyone tell me the meaning of two minims connected by a double beam? I think this must be music notation shorthand, but not being a musician, merely a score copyist, I have no idea what it means, nor could I find a definition on the Internet.

It's indeed the two-note tremolo as linked above.
In older notation the tremolo-lines are often drawn connected to the stems of the note.
