When a single note is selected (1/4 note for example) and entering a trill, or several other markings from the lines palette, the program draws the line for the full measure. You have to select the region with the note to get the correctly drawn mark. Noticed it as I was creating timpani parts.
Comments
This is by design. To make these lines only span a quarter note not on the last beat for example, select the 1/4 note and then ctrl+click whatever is on the next beat, then apply the line. While not true for the trill, most of the lines affected by this are usually applied until the end of the measure.
