Add horizontal align icons to the text toolbar

• Jul 23, 2019 - 10:57

For a text element, the horizontal alignment indicated in the Inspector currently applies both to the container and its content. However, content could be aligned independently of the container if horizontal align icons were also added to the text toolbar: Left, Center, Right, Default.

For example, to get the following text at the right of the Title frame, using only one text object:

composer.png

Currently you can do this by center-aligning the Composer style, say, and then dragging the text object to the right. But perhaps an alternative would be to keep the text object right-aligned and then center-align the text within it (by placing the cursor inside the text box and clicking the "Center" icon in the text toolbar).

I see what you are trying to do, but I don't think that's the right way to do it. Consider, as I pointed out, the controls in the text toolbar are character level controls, they really are designed to be applied to just a single letter if desired. Horizontal alignment is pretty much by definition a paragraph level control; it doesn't make sense when applied to anything less. So what's really need is the concept of paragraphs, and with it, various other paragraph-level controls like word wrap, justification, etc.
