I can't enter any notes

• Jul 30, 2019 - 16:22

I used musescore 3 for a few weeks, and it's working alright. But someday somehow I can't enter any notes or hot keys, I had already check all the setting like hot keys setting, input method etc. , and I didn't plugin any MIDI keyboard or bluetooth or anything. When I press N it just can't go to note-input mode and even when I click the button above to enter note-input mode, I still can't enter any note by pressing numbers. Please help me out, thanks a lot.

Can you give us key press by key press (and mouse click) instructions for what you do from the time you open a score until you enter the first note (that doesn't work) and provide a screen shot of your MuseScore window. You can ctrl+print screen then paste it into a paint program and save it as a PNG file so you can upload it here.

There's something not right and this might give us a chance to help you.

Sure, please see the attachments. And strange things happen..I can't enter any numbers until I took these screen shot, but still I can't go to note-input mode by pressing N. so I revert to factory setting and reset the keyboard setting to QWERT type (same as what I did last time). it end up at the same situation. I also do the same action on musescore 2.3.2 for compare.

You have a step that makes it where I don't know what to tell you. You have a Chinese keybaord and must tell MuseScore that you are going to use qwerty input.

The evidence on the screen shots tells me you probably did a proper factory reset (I mention this because I've seen screen shots with custom settings and the user said they did a factory reset then took the picture). I'm not sure which keyboard you told MuseScore you have when you set up the program.

Did you tell it you have an American QWERTY keyboard? If not, then the shortcuts may be different. Look at Edit->Preferences->Shortcuts and type TAB into the search box and you'll see all of the shortcuts. You can see if these are what you are used to.

The screen shot musescore3.2.3-9 shows that I choose American QWERTY keyboard, and I always choose this option every time I reset to factory settings. But as you mention I'm using Chinese, I think it maybe have something relate to system language. I used to choose Chinese as system language every time I reset, this time I choose English as system language and American QWERTY keyboard as input, then everything fixed somehow (I can press N to enter the note-input mode again). Even when I reset it again and chose Chinese as system language (like I do earlier) afterward, the functions still works.

So maybe it's fine now but I don't know what's happening, and not sure will it happen again. Thanks a lot for your great help, hope this problem will not happen again lol.

I suspect it's related to your choice of system languages. I've only used the set up 2 or three times and don't remember all of the steps, I totally forgot about the language step. It is not surprising that the Chinese Language would have different shortcuts than English, even with the same keyboard.
