Hairpins Are Getting the Better of Me
I cannot add hairpins to my score. When I select the range of notes (click on first note, press and hold Shift while clicking on last note), then double click on the hairpin in Master Palette under "Symbols," I get a mini hairpin on each note, note a larger one for the whole group. The mini symbols are on the staff lines - they are not in the middle. When I try to edit one, I get a "not editable in current state" message. When I select the range of notes and press the forward arrow for a dim. hairpin, nothing happens. Same for cresc. This has to be easy but it eludes me. I would appreciate any help.

Hairpins are found under the lines palette. The swells that you are adding are not the same thing, they belong on only one note. By the way, there are a shortcuts for hairpins the < and > keys.

Don't use arrows, use the 'less-than' or 'greater-than' signs (which, on a QWERTY keyboard, are uppercase comma or uppercase period).
