Some tips on writing an Indoor Percussion Show
Hi everybody!
I'm writing an Indoor Percussion Show this year based on self doubt and fighting off our inner demons that tell us that "We can't do this or that" or "You're not good enough" type of theme. This is my third year writing for an Indoor Show, but I feel like it's coming along very lack luster. I'm repeating a lot of chords and rhythms, the battery doesn't hit as hard as it could, and overall just leaves me wanting more. A lot of it is very "meh" and needs more life, and I just don't know how to make it better. I don't know how to get out of the rut of making a Pop Song Structure (even with the use of Gnarls Barkley "Crazy"). I've been watching WGI/DCI "Learn The Music" and trying to take concepts and mold it into my own, but I feel like I'm failing.
Any and all help/tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated. Attached is what I have so far of my first movement. Expected group, if possible, will be:
x2 Snare, x2 Bass, x1 Marimba, x1 Synth, x1 Vibe, x1 Rack / Drumset
Difficulty: Scholastic AA
