Is Playback Sequencing Correct in Musescore 3?

• Aug 28, 2019 - 13:23

In the attached score I have cut out many of the measures so you can see the issue without wasting a lot of time listening.

Here's the issue:
When I playback the attached score in MuseScore v. 3.2.2.7534, measures #8 and 9 never play. However, in the latest releases of MuseScore v. 2, they do play. (I have the exported MP3 files to prove it, although I no longer have that version on my PC.)

Correct sequencing should be
verse, verse, chorus, verse, chorus
but in v 3.2.2.7534, I hear only
verse, verse, chorus

Thanks for any help you can give.
Wayne

BTW, I love the sound improvements in v. 3--much more realistic sound.

Measure 8 & 9 do not play in version 2. I opened it in version 2 (using musicxml) and have the exact same layout and measures 8 &9 do not play in version 2.3.2 as expected. This is because there is nowhere for the repeat in measure 9 to go to so it is simply ignored and volta 2 is taken instead. Since you have a repeat in measure 4, you need a start repeat somewhere after this for the repeat in measure 9 to go to. MuseScore and live musicians don't repeat past other repeats.

v. 2.3.2 Playback - Forum Question.mscz 14.86 KB

Just to prove to myself that I'm not crazy, I went back to my old PC (having the old version of MuseScore) to confirm my claim. Actually, it was version 2.1.0, and, yes, the attached does playback as I originally described in v2.1.0, but not in v3.2.2 (or v2.3.2, apparently).

So maybe it's a difference between 2.1.0 and 2.3.2.

But regardless, since I'm on v. 3 now, can I create the sequencing I want in v. 3 without doubling the size of my score. Again, I want it to playback as
Verse
Verse
Chorus
Verse
Chorus (with slightly different end)

Thanks.

Wayne

Version 2.1 had many bugs that have been fixed. There are also some features that were changed. Voltas were made so they were able to be put in the middle of a passage and the playback count would be honored. You are seeing the result of this in the 2.3.2 and later versions.
