'This item is temporarily unavailable' when trying to add MSCZ score to MuseScore Android 2.4.12 SongBook

• Aug 28, 2019 - 15:59

I have version 2.4.12 of MuseScore on Android and I receive .mscz files from a friend who generates them using the latest non-Android version of MuseScore (probably Windows). I'm unable to add the last file (that I received a couple of days ago) to my Android SongBook. I've had many previous .mscz files that I've added and used successfully.

These are the steps I take:

  • Start MuseScore
  • Login (if asked)
  • Select Library
  • Select SongBook
  • Tap '+' in top right corner
  • Navigate to the folder containing the .mscz file(s)
  • Tap the file I want
  • Message 'Copying' is shown
  • Message 'Opening' is shown
  • Blank screen is shown (except for navigation / control options along the bottom of the screen)
  • Tap 'back' button or choose back arrow in top left
  • Library screen is shown (NOT SongBook screen)
  • Select SongBook again
  • SongBook shows an entry that is just a number (no score title)
  • Tap the entry and message 'This item is temporarily unavailable' is shown
  • Library screen is shown again

I tried starting from scratch (i.e. deleting app cache and deleting app data) which, of course, removed all my existing SongBook entries (I knew this would happen as I've been through this process previously in June - but it all worked that time!). However, now I find I can't add ANY of my .mscz files as I get the problem described above.

OK, in trying to resolve the initial problem it seems I might have inadvertently shot myself in the foot as I've lost all my existing SongBook entries and I can't re-add them now!

Nevertheless, the problem remains - why can I no longer add any .mscz file to my SongBook?

Thank you for any resolution.

Apologies and many thanks for your reply. I've already posted this issue on that site. However, it looks like a user's forum rather than a technical support site, Technical support is what I think I need for this issue, Are support technicians from MuseScore going to look at and reply to my issue on the Android site?

Thank you for your reply. I previously sent an email to support@musescore.com and received a response that said:

"Thanks for reaching out!
For any issues related to the Musescore Software, please reference the Musescore Handbook - https://musescore.org/en/handbook

Visit our support forums - https://musescore.org/en/forum

If you are unable to find a solution to your issue within the Handbook or Forums, please post this issue in the Support & Bug Report topic."

I've done all this and received your initial response ("wrong site"). So, I've followed your recommendations and posted my issue on https://musescore.com/groups/musescore-android/.

Will a MuseScore technician look at and reply to my issue on the Android site? Additionally, how do I report a bug from within the Android app (because I can't see any obvious way of doing so)?

Many thanks.

Ah... OK, thanks. Unfortunately I'm now stuck with an app that no longer works and there doesn't seem to be a way of getting any technical support from the 'manufacturer' and there's no apparent way to formally report the issue. It seems that I have to 'hope' that a technician 'might' look at the forum and 'possibly' be inclined to pursue the problem... Not really an ideal situation is it, and I'm not sure if I'm any better off now than when we started... :-(
Anyway, I'm not sure if you're an external moderator of some sort or actually work for MuseScore, but thank you for your help and guidance.

Please, write all of this in the other forum where you reported the problem.
If you spend some time there as much as the time you spend here, maybe it will attract someone's interest.

In other forum:
Type "bump" and take your message up
Type "Anyone?" and take your message up
Push your luck.

Maybe someone will help :D
Maybe you can angry someone :)

I don't really know the other forum.

And don't hold me responsible for whatever you get at the other forum. :^î

I think I might have a resolution for this issue.

My environment: Android 5.1.1 on a Samsung tablet and MuseScore 2.4.12 Android app.
My issue: Adding a new .mscz file as described in the original text above.able' is shown

Please note that there doesn't seem to be any way of removing an entry from the SongBook that is shown as just a number, without using the reset option described below.

The Reset Option - Disclaimer:
This 'reset' process will remove ALL your songbook entries and, I suspect, do the equivalent of a 'factory reset' on the MuseScore app. All your .mscz files should remain in your file system, but it's probably best to do a backup first. Follow this process only if you really want to remove spurious SongBook entries and don't mind starting completely from scratch with MuseScore and [tediously] re-adding ALL your SongBook scores.

Of course, the reset option is completely optional.

The Reset Option - Process:
* This reset process is optional - please read the disclaimer above
* Go To Android Settings
* Find and tap Application Manager
* Find and tap MuseScore
* Tap Force Stop
* Reply OK to any warning that it may cause errors
* Tap Clear Cache
* Tap Clear Data - this is the one that does the equivalent of a 'factory reset'
* Reply OK to the warning about deleting setting and databases etc. (this will remove all your SongBook entries)
* Start the MuseScore app and login etc. to get back to where you were before you started the reset process (but without any SongBook entries, of course)

My resolution (it doesn't seem to matter whether the MuseScore app is started or not, however the .mscz file type must be associated with the MuseScore app):
* Go to your Android File Manager
* Navigate to the folder containing the .mscz file(s) you wish to add to your SongBook
* Tap on a .mscz file
* Message 'Starting' might be shown
* Message 'Copying' is shown
* Message 'Opening' is shown (this might stay shown for quite some time)
* 'Select a part' screen is shown
* Make your usual selection
* Chose Select
* Chose the 'back' or 'return' button on your device until you return to your File Manager
* Repeat the above Resolution steps until you've finished added the .mscz files / scores that you want
* Open the MuseScore app and navigate to SongBook and, hopefully, your scores should be shown

The above resolution worked for me. It might not work for you, in which case I'm very sorry. However, if you have a similar issue, I hope it does work and resolves your problem.
