Saving changes
First, my apologies forsuch a basic question. I am using version 1.3
I've created around two dozen theory exercises and continue to have the same problem: when I reopen a file and make changes, the changes aren't saved on the first try--I have to reopen and make the same changes as many as a half-dozen times before they get saved. I'm using a PC and have tried "Ctrl + S," the "Save" icon on the menubar, and selecting "Save" after clicking on the red box that closes the documents. I've also, while keeping the document open, saved after each successive change, but that didn't make a difference, either. I look forward to learning what obvious thing I have missed.

What mode you are in when you try to save?
It would help if you posted the score you are having trouble with and said what kind of changes specifically you are making.
Thanks for the responses. I will try to follow-up when I am back in the office tomorrow or Thursday (we're having some work done at the house and there is some uncertainty as to when the crews will be here!).

I hope that an example of what I am talking about is attached (although I created the score and entered the notes, they are not original with me).
Xavier: you asked what "mode" I'm in. I'm new enough at this that I don't know how to answer the question. Basically, I click (sometime left click, sometimes right click) on the bold signatures at the end of the systems to select them and then choose "make invisible." Those changes are made on the score I am looking at, but after closing and reopening, I see that the changes were not made. I don't know if this matters, but after making changes, I wind up with two copies on the desktop, one of them with a comma following the extension name [mscz,] and one without the comma. The latter is always the most recently edited version of the score.
Another exercise that was giving me the same problem a couple of days ago accepted the changes just fine this morning.
None of this is a big deal--it's just that it would be nice to know if I should be doing something differently. It would make life better than trying to come up with new ways to appease whatever gremelins are at work here.

First of all it is a bad idea to save anything on the Desktop in Windows, as it affects the speed at which the Desktop loads - everything placed on the desktop is stored on the hard drive, and so consequently when you start up the machine it has to pull all the files stored on the desktop off the hard drive.
You are better to use the Windows default folders to store your work.
I can't check your file at the moment because I'm out of the office, but I will look at it when I get back.

Ah, the problem here is the specific change you are trying to make. The time signatures are the end of systems are called "courtesy time signatures" and they are generated on the fly rather than stored permanently - since they come and go depending on where the line breaks happen to occur. That's why setting properties on them doesn't stick. Instead, go to Style / Edit General Style / Page and turn off the "create courtesy time signatures" option. At this point, your trial and error has generated a bunch of extra time signatures, you can delete them too or maybe just start over.

Ok I've now had a look at your file.
I've made one or two tweaks and the result is attached - the most important being that I've switched off courtesy time signatures in the Edit Style>Page dialogue which were causing unwanted time signatures to appear.
I didn't have problems with the file not saving

Thanks to all for the suggestions. It sounds like a simple remedy. I assumed that there was a straight-forward solution to a problem that needn't exist.
I truly am impressed by the flexibility of MusScore, a program that is free for the asking.
