Parts Creation questions

• Sep 29, 2009 - 21:30

When I create separate parts for a quintet from the score, each staff starts out with a part identification. That would be a terrific feature if you were breaking multiple parts from a score onto a page, but for single parts - well, it looks funny, and is drawing comment from the quintet members.

Is there a setting to create parts where the each staff does not have the part identification? If not, what is the best way to promote this to a request?

Also, is there a simple way to create all 5 separate parts at once?

Finally, sizing the parts properly to pages. (lower priority) Now, I go to layout - page settings and keep picking different sizes in the Scaling - Space parameter until it seems to fit the page(s) as I want. Is it possible to have a "fit to (fill in #) page(s)" option?

Thanks

To get rid of the part identification at the beginning of each line of a part, simply click on one of them on the second line or lower and hit delete. All the abbreviated part identifications will be gone, and you will simply have the main part identification beside the first line (which you can eliminate by clicking on it and hitting delete also, but I leave that one).

As for the last part of your question, I would also like to have a "fit to" option.

It is not normal to change the scaling on a part-by-part basic. I don't think you will see this on any published set of scores. You can however increase the space between the staff lines to fill the page. Right now MuseScore will do this automatically if the music takes up more than 70% of the score. You can change this percent via Style > Edit Style > Page > Page fill threshold.
