if you want that for your play-back, impossible, you must duplicated the passage. If you want only for the player, simply write "2nd time only or TACET 1st Time"
I would like to add that in a lot of occasions the 2nd time differs slightly from the first time. For example, the horns play mf 1st time, and f the 2nd time.
It would be great to find a solution. I understand that you can copy paste the score, but you really want to keep the score as compact as possible.

Easy to tell the musician, like via a staff text, difficult (and currently impossible) for MuseScore's playback

Of course if playback is vital, like making an MP3, you can use Tools->Unroll repeats, edit playback and you have the best of both worlds. A readable score and one that plays properly. You just have to either maintain both or unroll the score every time since they aren't linked.

It never existed, playback wise. Or existed ever since, as far as a staff or system text to tell the musicians is concerned

Oh, unless you mean 'unroll repeats', that indeed vanished from Mu4, one of many regressions vs. Mu3

Yes I was meaning 'unroll repeats'. Interesting regression when it was obviously useful. Thanks for your reply.

But you can use MuS 3.7 from Jojo-Schmitz.
It does read MuS 4 files and you can "Unroll Repeats" there. It makes a copy of the score and save it as "xxx_unrolled.mscz" and you can open it in MuS 4.

Thank you for the tip.
I was looking for a way to skip just before and over the second volta of the repeat.
If this is only for one-time testing, a workaround without editing is to use the Playback Controls toolbar, and move the time slider over to the end of second repeat.
The timestamp (min:sec) is also useful to sync with video or audio when transcribing.
