Export parts in multiple tones

• Oct 28, 2019 - 15:25

Hello,

Firstly I'm French but I've been told to use the English forum in order to have answers from developpers.
I'm making an arrangement of a song for my students. I have 4 different parts.
Some of my students need C parts and others Bb parts. I'd like to export my 4 parts in the two tones (C and Bb) without creating 4 new parts that are the same as the first ones but with one tone difference.
Is there any way to do it ? My main goal is to avoid having 2 parts for the same "voice".
Because if I modify one I'll have to modify the other too...

Now is the reason I'm in the English forum. I learned computer development (several languages) and if there is any way to code this solution myself if it doesnt exist yet I may be interested (like a mod, or plugin)...

Thanks.
Sorry for my poor English.
Zach.

Your English is fine and totally understandable.

What you want to do is not possible. For two instruments of different pitches, you must use different staves. The only real workaround in your case is to enter the instrument in Bb. You can then print the part in concert pitch for the C instrument and transposed pitch for the Bb instrument. This wouldn't work if you had an A and Bb instrument (like clarinets).

If you wanted to become a contributor to MuseScore, your input would be welcomed. There are requests for exactly what you are requesting, but I think it would require editing the actual program to totally automate it. A plugin would need to be run each time you want to update another instrument. This would be better than the current requirement to either reenter the notes or use copy and paste, but still requires user intervention.

Are you a contributor ?
If you are, or someone of them is reading this comment, I'd be glad to have to keys to know how to contribute efficiently for Musescore. This kind of problem is a real pain for me, so I'd really like to make my one plugin (or anything similar) to make it possible.
It is like in orchestral editing. When you buy a score with parts sheets for beginner musicians, you often have the score structured by X parts (part 1, part 2, etc but no "clarinet" or "flute" for example) and you have each part in all main orchestral tones (C, Bb, Eb at least). I'd really like to reproduce the same thing in the musescore export module or part module. It could be as simple as add a new part, but linked to another one in another tone and when you do "export parts" it exports every parts you created (with the virtual ones to export several tones for one part).
In my head it seems clear, but maybe not in a forum comment !!!! I'd be glad to discuss it with a contributor if there is any way I could do something.

Thanks for all the answers !
At least I know it is not possible as it is now, I can stop looking for inexistant solution haha
