Finale won't run my Musescore files

I'm working on a collaboration project with someone using finale, and I'm using musescore 3. They keep asking for .xml files because the .musicxml and .mxl files I'm sending them won't run in Finale. How do I fix that?

Finale should be able to read musicxml files just fine.

You can always change the musicxml file to be an xml-file, which is the older and more generic file extention used.
