new user cannot input

• Nov 24, 2019 - 02:35

i installed musescore on an Ubuntu linux laptop. The install was fast and simple, without any issues.
I read the handbook to learn the basics on how to use musescore.
I then created a new score.
I chose drum kit as the instrument, 4/4 time at 120bpm.
I hit "N" to input notes, chose quarter notes and went to input it in the first measure. Nothing happens, the rest remains and no notation is entered.
I understand it is supposed to add the notes and reduce the rest notation as I go along.
Am I missing something? Better yet, what am I missing.
TIA

Drum kits are different than pitched instruments. I suspect you read about normal note input. Check out https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/drum-notation. If this doesn't help, then attach your score.

One other thing, in the mixer (F10) you must select a drumset sound for note input to work on a drumset. If you remove the check from drumset and select another sound, you will be in the situation you described.

Thanks Mike. I tried that but it didn't work. Turns out that Ubuntu only has version 2.x.
I uninstalled that and went with the portable app version 3.x.
I am now successfully writing drum score to give a talented friend the opportunity to read score and expand his experience.
