If you opened the score in MuseScore then saved it, then the version you opened still exists. It is called .filename.mscz, with the dot before and comma after the name. I don't use Macs, but there is a way to see hidden files like this. Find that file and rename it without the starting dot or ending comma and you will have an older version to work with.
Doesn't macOS provide a "Trash" icon where deleted files go temporarily before being removed completely? You should be able to retrieve your score from there.
