Question about repeating an entire score (including the repeats within the score)

• Dec 12, 2019 - 23:19

Hello,

In the score I'm currently working on, I already have a set of four measures that repeat and then go to volta 2 (e.g. measure 21, 22, 23, 24 is volta 1, then 25 is volta 2). Those play correctly, skipping volta 1 the second time around. However, upon reaching the end of the score, I'd like to be able to repeat the entire score EXCEPT for the very first two measures. But any attempts to throw in a sort of overarching repeat sends it back to the start repeat from the volta section (e.g. I get to the end of the piece, then the repeat sends me to measure 21 from before).

Sorry if this isn't being explained well... I'm not particularly GOOD at any of this, but I certainly enjoy it haha. I appreciate any help!

Repeats within a repeat using regular repeat signs are a no-no musically - it's unclear to anyone reading the score (including MuseScore) what to do. So instead that's what DC, DS, segno, and similar markings are for. If you're not familiar with those, try looking up "segno" online or in your favorite reference on music notation - there's lot to explain, but plenty of good explanations already out there.

If you continue to have trouble after adding appropriate DS and segno markings, then please attach your score so we can understand and assist better.
