blue box selection
I cannot seem to select a measure and highlight it in a blue box. I have read, and watched YouTube videos. hold shift key and click measure? I need to delete measures.

For one measure no need to hold shift. Make sure you click "in the measure: but no object in it. Shift click is for when you have selected the first of a groups of contiguous measures. Click the first and shift/click the last.

Another way if you are having trouble finding an empty area within the measure is to click the first note or rest then shift+click the last. Also see the Handbook for more on other ways of making selections.
