Mixed Notation
Hi,
I want to score music that would be a mixed notation. Specifically it's a violin piece that has bowed notes, pizz (plucked) notes ---- and percussive "hits" on the instrument.
You can see this a lot with guitar a lot, and there's not a standard name for it. Here's some examples:

..or..

sooOOOoooOOo.... what I want to do in a single score is have musical notes (A, B, C, etc.) and then drum notation type notes as well. You know these notes have an 'X' instead of a rounded note head. I don't want to use 2 staves, I want it in a single staff.
I tried right-clicking on the note I wanted to turn into a percussion note, thinking I could change the note head that way.
ANY IDEAS?
Thanks!

If you're in a normal staff, select notes and change the head group type in the inspector (F8) to
cross

Thank you SO MUCH!!
To change the violin sound to pizzicato, use a mid-staff sound change. See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/mixer#mid-staff-change
For percussive notes, change the notehead to "Cross" as mentioned by jeetee.
For percussive playback, use another mid-staff sound change - this time, to the unused tremolo channel where you assign a "hit" sound.
Here's an example using guitar:
