Playback audio not working

The playback audio is not working and the "play" button is greyed out. Whenever I open up the software I get an error that reads:

Error: pEnumerator-> GetDefaultAudioEndpoint(eRender, eMultimedia, &pRenderDevice) failed. Code: -2147023728

How can I fix this problem?
