Improve instrument sounds?

I am using MuseScore2 on a mac 10.13.6 so it might not be possible to upgrade to 3.
Can anyone suggest a way to improve my instrument sounds while staying on MuseScore2?

MuseScore 3.x runs an macOS 10.10 and later
You can use the MuseScore 3 soundfont(s) with MuseScore 2 (but won't benefit from single note dynamics)
