Change staff type midway the score

• May 7, 2020 - 11:49

Hi!
Nowadays it is impossible to change the staff type midway the score, and therefore, many contemporary music composers have to turn to either other music notation programs or to image editing programs like Inkscape to be able to write the music as they concieve it.
For example, a contrabassist could be required to turn their instrument and start doing percussion on its back, task for which a one-line staff is much more appropriate.
I really like the players concept in Dorico, where one can seamlessly add more instruments than one to a player, represented in a single staff.

Indeed, MuseScore does support many types of staff type change mid-score. Changing from pitched to unpatched is not currently supported, but you can certainly get the notation right without too much difficulty if not the playback (and workaround like invisible staves for the playback are possible too).
