What is the purpose of "Save a Copy"?

• Jun 8, 2020 - 22:48

This question is triggered by the post https://musescore.org/en/node/306477 - New extension for V4 files.

When I go to it there seems no difference between it and "Save as ...".

Perhaps if it added a version number (xxx 2/3.mscx) it could be useful.

Seems like "Save a copy" saves a copy of the current score into a new file without loading that new file into MuseScore at all, whereas "Save as" will make the currently opened score-tab become that very saved file. One imagined purpose would be to create multiple versions or backups of something while continuing to work on whatever the file is before saving the copy.
