Switching Samples Via Articulation

I have a soundfont that has separate samples for staccato notes. I know it's possible to add the ability to switch samples via text properties and editing the instruments.xml but I was wondering if it was possible to have the sample switch whenever the normal staccato articulation is present. Thanks.
