A couple problems with the unmetrical notation feature

• Jun 27, 2020 - 18:06

Hello all,
I understand that this feature is still in development, so I want to report as many bugs as I can so it can improve quickly. I've been writing some piano music with this feature, and in doing so have encountered some bugs, including playback issues with chords and not being able to copy and paste notes that go over the barline. I wrote a brief example score that demonstrates these bugs and shows the steps that lead to them. I have left the barlines visible in this example score for ease of viewing.

Example score: example_unmetrical_bug.mscz

OS: Windows 10 (10.0), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 3.3.4.9134, revision: 7ea61d9

"Unmetrical" can mean different things in different contexts. There is indeed an experimental and almost completely untested feature specifically to allow notes to continue over the barline without ties, but most people writing unmetered music would never need this feature. Instead, you simply join and split measures as desired to get whatever measure durations you desire, with no need to have notes spill over barlines. There's no special mode to choose, just join and split the measures using Tools / Measures.
