Stuck note on input

• Apr 22, 2025 - 15:42

I'm encountering an issue where entering a note triggers a "stuck key" response where the input triggers over and over again resulting in endless input of said note. I haven't found a consistent way to make the loop stop- right clicking over and over again and esc multiple times sometimes seem to work.

Anyone else encounter this and have a fix? This just started a few weeks ago, possibly around an MuseScore update, but I can't be sure.

Thank you!

This sounds like a hardware problem on your computer, rather than an issue with the software. Certainly I've not heard anyone else reporting such a problem. Check that your devices (especially the keyboard and/or mouse) have up-to-date drivers.

If it's still happening after you update those drivers, please identify your computer's operating system and version, and MuseScore's version. You can get all three simultaneously by clicking on Help / About MuseScore from the main menu. Then click the copy button (two pieces of paper) next to the "Revision" number. Paste that into your post.

Then describe in GREAT and EXCRUCIATING detail exactly what you do to enter a note to make this happen, what you expect to happen at each step, and how the program responds instead of matching your expectations.

It's possible to include too much detail but you'd really have to work at it. It's very easy to include too little ... so include more :-)

I just encountered this problem myself and managed to fix it:

Check your audio/MIDI settings and see if you find the MIDI input- and -output devices set to "MIDI Through", "Loopback" or anything similar, and if so, set them to "no device" (for the time being).
