What does "composing" mean re: music notation software vs composition software
Please clarify if "composing" in this context means primarily writing the notes into the software using a musical keyboard as to writing using a computer keyboard. And the notating part is more about taking an existing piece of music and transcribing it into the program?

To me it means anything other than simply copying existing sheet music. Whether you are literally composing new music out of your own head, or whether it's taking an existing piece of sheet music and arranging it for different instruments, or transcribing a piece by ear from a recording and creating your own version of it, many of the same issues come up - issues of how you go about choosing instruments, editing your music, wanting to hear playback, etc.
Whereas notation basically refers to how it looks on paper.
