An extra clef appears when I re-open this score

If I then close it and re-open it then this extra clef appears:
Any ideas what I've done?

Somehow that initial clef got a bit corrupted, maybe because of the leading space adjustment you made. Not sure why you did that, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you prefer extra space before clefs at the beginning of measures, do that in Format / Style / Measure.
To fix this, I would insert a new pickup measure and delete the old one. Then you can replace the clef.

Thanks that worked.
I checked out Format / Style / Bar and tried out the spacing option and it does the job but in the end I decided to leave it at its default value. Is it generally better to use styling than to make adjustments in the inspector?

Depends on your needs I guess. If it is an individual element you want to change. use the Inspector, else use the style settings (or use the Inspector's "Set as style" button)
