Saving part completed files doesn't work
Hi, I have Linux Ulyana as my OS. When I updated from Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3 the update also included Musescore 3. I had been using Musescore 2 quite successfully.
When I create a file in version 3 the program creates what looks like a normal file but if I recall this file, make some amendments, it does not keep the amended data when saved. If I want to open the original file it tells me it cannot find the file.
Anyone know whats wrong with this program. I lost an entire days output thinking I was saving the data.

Which exact version of Musescore 3 do you have, it can be found in Help->About... It will say something like Version: 3.5.0.13199 (though yours will be different).

Hi, thanks for your response. I uninstalled Musescore 3 last night and reinstalled it from the Musescore website. It tells me I have version 3.5.0 rev. 43c5553. I tested this one out and it does the same things i.e.
1./ If I try to do File, save as - it gives me a message saying Cannot determine file type.
2./ If I select just Save it goes away and saves the first version as an mscx file. If I then recall the file and modify it and hit save again it goes away but leaves a message behind the main screen which says -Update the file "file name" in the archive? and gives the following explanatory note - The file has been modified with an external application. If you don't update the file in the archive all of your changes will be lost.
So, naturally I select the update option. When I then recall the file I have the original file and not the updated version.
It is most frustrating as I am writing music to compete in the Scottish Mod competition and I could not afford to waste a days output, which is exactly what happened.
Any ideas on this??

uninstall/reinstall rarely fixes issue with MuseScore, more success is likely with reverting it to factory settings
Reg the filenames see #305563: File of type drop down doesn't change/affect extension in filename in Linux and try the workaround mentioned there, change the setting of Edit > Preferences > Advanced > ui/application/useNativeDialogs

Brilliant, it now saves an MSCZ file when using Save or Save As and everything works as it should. Many thanks for your advice.

Should work. Which version you're using? The official maintained version of actual Linux versions is the AppImage. Third party packages like distribution packages or the snap package are not maintained from MuseScore.
