2 Independent Tab Lines

• Sep 4, 2020 - 12:41

Is it possible to have 2 independent tab lines? I transcribe jazz solos for guitar, and use tab to remind me where to play the notes. I'd like to have 2 separate tab lines linked to the note line, but not to each other. See attached jpg.

Both tab lines are currently in the 9th position. I'd like to use the second line to notate fingering in the 14th position. But when I move the string fingering in one tab line, the other moves as well. The 2 tabs appear to be linked.

I hope this question is clear. Before posting, I searched, but could not find the answer.

Thanks, Stephen

How do I do that? I thought I could click on Staff 1 and then add "Electric Guitar (Tablature)" using "Add Linked Staff" (see jpg). That new line appears as notes, not tab, so I go into "Staff/Part Properties" for the new line and select "Change Instrument" to "Electric Guitar (Tablature)" in order for the new line to appear as tab. It seems like this line would have appeared as "Electric Guitar (Tablature)" as that is the linked line I added, but it takes the extra step into "Staff/Part Properties".

But these 2 tab lines are linked together, so if I move a fingering position mark on the first tab line, it moves it on the second tab line. Both tab lines are linked to the note line (i.e. if I move a note, fingerings move on both tab lines), but the tab lines are linked as well.

I'd like the tab lines to only be linked to the note line, so I can explore different fingerings once I've transcribe the improvised solo notes.

Thank you for your help!
