Move all existing line breaks

• Sep 11, 2020 - 17:37

I'm wondering if the following feature already exists in MuseScore, if there's a plug-in, or if it's been previously requested.

Shift all line breaks  x measures

  • forward
  • backward

in the current selection or throughout the entire score.

Hi Shoichi

I'm aware of Format>Add/Remove System breaks dialog. But—as requested—shifting existing line breaks would better fit my workflow. And in virtually all the cases that I've wished for a shift break function, a simple shift would resolve everything.

If the option to shift breaks is implemented, accessing could be as simply right-clicking a line break and choosing the options therein, such as:

Shift:

  • just this break
  • this break and all remaining
  • all breaks

... of course with the parameters mentioned in the opening post: * forward/backward • x measures °

As you suggest, I could used * Add/Remove System breaks* to delete all breaks, and then add them anew at every x measures. But often I'm dealing with situations where intended line break positioning would not be evenly distributed throughout the score—in other words, I don't want a fixed number of measures per line. So if I delete all line breaks I'm tasked with adding them manually.

In such situations I consistently see that shifting would be the perfect solution ... hence the request.

Can you post an example of a score and a situation where this particular edit makes sense? That would help us understand if would be likely to be something others would find useful or if it's unique to your particular workflow.

If it is something useful to just you (and maybe a handful of others), this is probably something a plugin could handle well.
