Preserve size/view layout

• Sep 15, 2020 - 17:13

Hello,

either:

a) is there a way to make sure that if I set the view size of the page at, say, 80% and then save the file that it reopens at the same size/view layout it was saved at?

or:

b) could this please be included in the next version of Musescore?

I find it frustrating, for example, that with a piece that has three pages and fits perfectly at 80% and I then save it, when re-opened it automatically defaults to 100%. I cannot find anything in preferences and, after a brief search of the forums, can find nothing here either. All other features, Mixer, Inspector, Piano Keyboard etc. seem to be preserved when saved but not the view size percentage.

Many thanks in anticipation

You can't apply it to a single file but you can set it globally for every file you open. It is located in Edit->Preferneces in the Canvas tab it's the Default zoom setting.

The items you mentioned that do save their settings are their own windows rather than something inside of a window like a score. If you're not aware, you can close MuseScore with scores open. If you haven't saved them it tells you. When you set the Restore last session option in preferences it will open all scores to the same zoom they had when you shut down the program. This isn't what you are asking for but it might be helpful.

Thanks for the reply mike 320 but you're right, this isn't what I was asking for.

If you are right about the difference being that the other items that do save their states are because they have "their own windows rather than something inside of a window like a score" then why does Musescore save the state of view layout? I've just created and saved two different copies of the same score and labelled them in the filename accordingly) one set to continuous view and the same and the other to page view. when re-opened those two different states are preserved but it has nothing to do with having its own window. The setting sits right next to the zoom % level. So why is the page layout individually preserved but not the view/zoom %?

I am still using version 3.4,2.9788 (as many people seem to be having trouble with 3.5).

Again many thanks for any help/enlightenment.

3.5 provides many more options for page scaling than 3.4.2, so unless you specifically absolutely need repeats to playback in continuous view, I can't think of a reason not to update. Sure, there are a few other known bugs, but then there are literally hundreds of bugs in 3.4.2 that are fixed in 3.5.

Page vs continuous view is saved because it actually is part of the score state - it drastically affects layout of the score. Zoom does not, and yes, as mentioned, 3.5 provides some new capabilities here you may find useful

The state of the program when you close it is saved in its own file. The score is technically independent of the program and does not save program specific information in it. How the program shows you the file is based upon program settings. This makes it so I can open your score with my default 150% zoom and it will look the way I expect to see it rather than the way you saw it the last time it was saved. Version 3.4.2 or 3.5 doesn't make a difference in this case.

There was, at one time during 3.5 development, code added to save the zoom state with the score. But I believe it was removed. Still, there are new options for setting zoom state on startup on and new shortcuts for quickly toggling between zoom states, etc. So for anyone wanting more zoom flexibility, 3.5 is an absolutely improvement.
