So basically the opposite of https://musescore.org/en/faq#faq-308797, the handbook page that links to should help here too
But to be clear: you need to have the current version of MuseScore in order for chords to playback. If you do, they will play by default in new scores, but for the sake of compatibility, not in old scores. But if you turn off harmony/play/disableCompatibility in Edit / Preferences / Advanced, even old scores will have playback enabled by default upon opening them.
