Figured bass layout
Is there a way to put a single figure or accidental in the lower row, other than moving it in the inspector?

Seems there is a bug involving blank lines, see #289431: [Regression] Ctrl+space does not leave empty line in Figured Bass. I find it does work if I type Ctrl+Space then Enter twice. But I suspect if the bug is ever fixed, that will result in the accidental being too far down. So as workarounds go, your current method might be better.

Cmd-Space is a nogo on the Mac (global keystroke for Spotlight). Option-space return return seems to do it, though.
