printing single- or double-sided

• Nov 7, 2020 - 19:16

I've been searching but haven't found anything to help with my issue, so hopefully someone here can assist me.

I'm trying to print a 3-page lead sheet. It always prints Page 1 single-sided and Pages 2-3 double-sided, and the double page flips on the short side (i.e., at the top of the page, not along the side like a book). I would like to print either 3 pages single-sided or Pages 1-2 together (double, flipped on the long side) and Page 3 single-sided.

"Two-sided" is unchecked in Tools > Page Settings, although it seems to me that is more about mirrored margins than printing. In my Print dialog, I select double-sided (long side) but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Even if I have double-sided off so it should print all 3 pages separately, it still prints 1 separately and 2-3 double-sided (short side).

I notice that on the Canvas, Page 1 is separate and Pages 2-3 are connected, so I imagine that this is what Musescore is sending to the printer. What can I change so the lead sheet prints properly?

Edit: I am using version 3.5.2.

Page 1 is indeed a right page and page 2 a left one.
Printing double-sided however is entirely out of MuseScore's control and directly done by your printer driver settings. So your solution should really be found in those print options of your Print dialog.

A possible workaround might be to use "File → Export" to create a PDF out of your score, then use a PDF viewer and print from there. Those programs often have a bit more options as to how to send a document to the printer.

Thanks for the reply. It is a curious issue. Musescore is the only program that prints this way. As far as I can tell, my overall Print settings should print as I intend. I can't imagine why it wouldn't print Page 2 on the back of Page 1, or why it would flip on the short side. All of my other software prints odd/even and flips on the long side as expected.

I did figure out your Export to PDF workaround and that prints just fine, so it'll do. I found Musescore super easy to use, even with having to look up a few things, but there are a couple of goofy quirks like this (and capo chords!).

Are you sure you don't have a blank page for page 1? I've never heard of any printer choosing to print the way you describe, and certainly no version of MuseScore I've used with any printer I've used has ever done so. The fact that the orientation is off too, though, make me pretty sure it's a problem in your printer driver somewhere. What printer, what OS, and have you tried updating its drivers? Maybe a recent update broke this and you simply hadn't noticed the same with any other programs yet? Even if it happens to still work with other programs, wouldn't hurt to check to see if they've released any subsequent fixes.
