Crash on Launch - Mac OSX, Macbook Pro
Hi Team,
Would appreciate any thing we could try on the following here:
We are experiencing a repeated crash on launch on MBPro with both 0.95 and 0.96 pre-releases.
The Musescore app splash-screen displays, followed by spinning rainbow, followed by std mac 'unexpectedly quit' dialog.
We have tried reinstalling , re-downloading the app a few times. The app has been working fine for the past month or so, and we have been fiddling around with the preferences a fair bit whilst learning to use as our only unorthodox usage pattern.
No other software, apart from std mac system updates has been installed on the machine since Musescore was working fine.
Are there any files in either system or package contents that we can try deleting etc.. to check before trying the whole OS reinstall thing?
Thanks in advance!
Macbook Pro 17in
2.16GHZ
2GB RAM
OSX 10.5.8

if you don't mind about your preferences, you can reset musescore to factory settings.
To do this, you need to run it rom the command line.
Open a terminal and type
/Applications/MuseScore.app/Contents/MacOS/mscore -F

Lasconic,
Wonderful result. Musescore back up and running again! I had actually read the factory reset advice posted on the site already, but the instructions were only written for windows:
http://www.musescore.org/en/handbook/revert-factory-settings
....I simply wasn't aware that a similar function could be performed via terminal on the mac.... I've updated the support page to reflect same.
Cheers,
A.

This is not working for me. I get the terminal message:
in stat: : No such file or directory
in stat: : No such file or directory
I suspect muse has problems with the directory system on Mac.
I still have the problem described in my posting below that muse often fails to open at all.
I changed the default file to empty or whatever it is called, but so far only a system restart solves the problem.

The 4 "in stat: : No such file or directory" messages are "normal" and due to midi input device detection.
So not linked with your crash.

Update.
It seems muse does not really crash at start, but it takes full 4 minutes while the ball ist spinning.
This is a file system problem, it seems to me.
I still use muse 0.9.5 on MacOS X 10.4.11. (The same behaviour with 0.9.6. 2269.)
I noticed something weird: when defining a startup file, the file selector is looking for a file with the ending .msc, but there is no such format in the save dialog.

Indeed, this is a bug. http://www.musescore.org/en/node/3303
If you discover a preference setting that was causing it to crash at startup then please let us know.

David,
Given that we have to delete the current preferences from an app that doesn't actually boot up in the first place, effectively prohibiting us from seeing which preferences were set before the crashing started, I'd say our chances of finding the rogue 'preference' are slim, at best.
But, hey....we are talking computers here. Stranger things have happened!
Do you think any preferences in particular are likely to cause this issue? I'm happy to run a re-check of any suspected rogue prefs on the machine in question when/if we get it up and running again. I can't duplicate the error on any other machine at this end.

If it never crashes at startup again then I agree if would be difficult to find the cause. I only meant for you to be on the lookout in case it happens again.
There were a few startup crashes in version 0.9.3 and earlier related to the "continue previous session" option but all the reported problems were fixed by version 0.9.4. As far as I'm aware, you are the first to report any startup crashes in versions 0.9.4, 0.9.5 or later.

I have a similar experience with 0.9.5.
At startup, after the splash screen, the spinning ball is the last action, it remaines in this state.
Once the solution was to move the default song to the documents folder instead the defined folder in muse.
A restart of the computer helped, too.
I thought I had it solved, but now, when starting muse, it hangs again.
I have only very little time now, so I cannot dig in deeply at the moment.
I have MacOS X 1.4.11 on G5 (PPC)
