You can click a stem (make sure it's only a stem) then shift click another stem and all stems between will be selected. You can then open the inspector (F8) and change the Length change in the stem section. Positive numbers are longer negative are shorter.

I then discovered if I click on one stem and select all similar elements, go to F8 then stem/ length change.
It shortens them all at once. Ta for your leading.
Just curious why you are wanting to do this? Stem length is almost completely standardized, it needs to be exactly 3.5 spaces (an octave) in most cases. Are you perhaps trying to make the noteheads and stems small, like for cues? Don't do that separately, do it in one step, by using the Chord section of the Inspector instead of the Note section.

It's not regular just for songs that have low notes for treble staff to help fit in least space with lyrics. I was just curious thanks for the help. here's an example. This makes Piano by number but also keeps the notes visible with smaller stems. Just having fun.

do you have an automatic way (plugin etc) to fill in the arabic note-numbers ?

I see. For that use, I think what you are using with selecting all similar and the Inspector is probably the best way to go. But - I would still caution against this, as no it teaches beginners to expect short stems, messing up their pattern recognition when they eventually try to move on to "normal" music. I have nothing against providing certain "crutches" like this as learning tools, but I do feel it is best not to do so in a way that will best prepare them for reading standard notation.
These numbers you have added are most akin to fingering numbers, so why not just add them that way? You can still make them extra large if you like, but at least then conventional piano music won't look so unfamiliar when students "graduate".
