Make voice 1 rests invisible IF voice 2/3/4 has a note. Reduction for piano.

• Jan 9, 2021 - 08:22

I imploded 4 voices to make a piano reduction and made the rests from voices 2, 3 and 4 invisible.
Some voice 1 rests co-exist / overlap / partially-overlap with notes played in voices 2, 3 or 4.
Can I make voice 1 rests invisible IF (and only if) voice 2/3/4 has a note?

Generally speaking, voice 1 should be the constant - the one thing always present - and should rarely have an invisible rest. Otherwise it would be impossible to correctly see the flow of time in the measure. Only the voices that enter and leave more sporadically would tend to have invisible rests. This isn't a hard and fast rule, but if you're regularly encountering what seems to be a need to make voice 1 rests invisible, chances are there is something not quite right in your voice assignments to begin with. If you attach an example, we can understand and assist better.
