Notes overlapping issue with different voices

I try to input two different voices (1& 2) in the same stave but I have a problem; the notes are Eb (voice 1) and F (voice 2). They overlap each other. In the inspector, I select the upper note and adjust the offset of the X value in the 'Chord' section and its work but is this the right way to do that? Why these notes didn't adjust and place themselves automatically?
