Can't find a way to block and copy in v 3.2.5.3

• Feb 16, 2021 - 16:01

Suddenly I'm no longer able to drag around a set of notes to select and copy them!!!!! I'm told by the manual to click on the first note, shift-click he last note in the sequence and a blue box will surround the section. I doesn't. An Enter symbol in box appears above the first note and the last note in the sequence and nothing happens when I press Ctrl C. Please help. This used to be so easy!!!

It's not really clear from your description what you mean - what "Enter symbol in box"? Like a system break? That's a thing for sure, but it appears only if you add one from the palette or actually press Enter. If you attach your score we can assist better. But certainly, click one note, shift+click works to select a range, always has. It's also possible as it always has been to perform certainly selection operations using Shift+drag, but this is definitely much more limited than the other ways of selecting.

Note there is no 3.2.5.3, not sure what version you actually mean, but the current is 3.6.2 and definitely worth updating to.

Well, Marc, I downloaded v 3.6 and am disappointed to say nothing has changed. I had to do a reset because MuseScore reported files in use that couldn't be updated without one. I'm using a fully updated Windows 10 on a Dell desktop.

The instructions from the online handbook are appended. None of them work for me. When I shift/click/drag this just moves the score around. When I click on the first note in a range and shift click the last one , nothing is selected. (I'm not in insert mode.) I do appreciate your help because I'm getting very frustrated. I've used Musescore on and off for some years and have been most impressed with it. Is this the result of the new update? If so can I get an earlier copy that works please? I shall shut down until tomorrow now, so no hurry.

Well, tons of improvement have been made in 3.6.2, but I didn't mean to suggest that this in itself would fix the problem you were having. Just that it was good advice in general.

As I said, if there is something in particular going on with your score that prevents selection from working, we'd need you to attach it in order for us to understand. Pictures don't really help.

Could also be you've disabled voice 1 in the selection filter (see View menu), that does prevent many selections from working.

But otherwise, I absolutely assure you that in every single version of MuseScore, Shift+drag selects, as does click / shift+click. If you are finding drag moves the score, this tells me you aren't holding Shift. Nothing has changed in this regard in the 10 years that MuseScore has been released.
