Frankly, those workarounds seem pretty complicated and time-consuming.
Until the devs add an easier way, I've just been using slurs to simulate ties—it seems to work fine. See my post and screenshot here:

Oops, I must backpedal on that!
Although adding a "hanging" slur is quick, subsequently editing the system can make it move considerably out of position. 😛 So it's better to start the slur on a hidden grace note—please see my additional post here:
