sound not working
I have coolsoft virtual synth and microsoft gs wavetable synth on my computer. device manager
shows both installed. device manager shows no driver for coolsoft. Also installed is virtual midi synth.
In musescore preferences in-out, they do not show. Restart audio devices
does nothing. How do I get a midi synth to work in musescore?

Are you saying you want to use one of those other programs, or that you want to ignore them and use MuseScore's built-in synthesizer?
For the former, you need to select an appropriate device in the MIDI Output section of Edit / Preferences / I/O, or if none of those provide drivers, you will need to install JACK and configure it to facilitate the communicate (assuming those programs support JACK, no idea if they do or not).
For the latter, MuseScore should be producing sound already be default using its own synthesizer. It's possible this got defeated as you fiddled with settings trying to get MIDI output working, so first try Help / Revert To Factory Settings. If that doesn't work, try the other suggestions in https://musescore.org/en/node/96811

I tried Help/Revert To Factory Settings. Now MuseScore will not open. I will try reinstalling MuseScore.
