I want to title the movements of a suite

• Mar 11, 2021 - 00:30

I cannot see how to name each of the movements in a suite of music. I have managed to seperate the movements but need to increase the space between them and add text. Any help would be most appreciated.

Add a vertical frame from the Frames & Measures palette or via the Add / Frames menu, then add Title and/or other text to the frame by right-click it and choosing the Add menu.

Hm, while it visually appears good inside the frame, it doesn't look like the added text (I chose Add -> Title inside the vert frame) is regarded as the actual title of a new movement. It is demonstrated by the fact that the tag $:movementTitle: used to have the movement title appear in the header/footer doesn't seem to work. I have always found it a little counter intuitive that to start a new movement in the score, the function is to add a section break. Why not "Add new movement .." and then a wizard asking for title and whatever customizable things which may be related to a new movement (with reasonable defaults).

Yes, I realize that this is not the place to suggest new functionality :-), but take it as a question - "How to start new movements and enter new movement titles such that the tag $:movementTitle: has correct values across a score with multiple movements" ?

Yes, I know that it works entering a movement title under Score properties, but as you say - for the entire score. What about scores with more than one movement? To me, it appears as MS doesn't have a true model for "movement" under the hood, but I may be wrong. If it had, we could have seen more functionality related to the concept of a movement. For instance exporting only specific movements and more.

You were asking "how to?" and the answer is "not".

Indeed, there is no movement functionality under the hood at all. This is one of the things that is supposed to come with the reintroduction of the Albums feature (and also part of the reason why that feature keeps being delayed; it has a lot of things to consider).
