Lost scores

• Mar 11, 2021 - 20:23

I was accessing my scores and received a dialog box that indicated an update was available. I updated and when I went back to access my acores, they were ALL GONE. I have searched the computer, search through the handbook and tried the suggestions from the Muscore rep. I have lost all my acores since the update. Any other suggestions?

Not to worry, no update to MsueScore ever touches a single one of your scores. They are still there on your computer, in the exact same folder and under the exact same filename they were before the update. Nothing about the update could possibly change that. So the question, is, what is the exact pathname of the folder those scores were in before the update? Once you can figure that out, you'll have your scores back.

I will guess maybe you don't know where your scores were but had simply been opening them via the recent files list, either in the Files menu or the Start Center. In which case case, you'll have to search your memory a little deeper to remember which folder you selected the first time you saved the score. The normal default locations would be Documents/MuseScore3/Scores, so that's certainly the first place you should look. but if you chose a different location, try to remember what that might have been.

Also note that after a crash, MuseScore will offer to restore your previous sessions, and in that case, you aren't working with your actual score but instead an autosaved copy of it that was created just for this purpose. If you save that, it goes back to the original location. But if there is another crash before you ever save it, then the next recover will have you work with the autosave copy directly (and probably it will have a weird name like "scn5382". To learn how to recover that - or other backup copies of your score, see https://musescore.org/en/node/52116
