when i try to add notes even to a new score it just adds rest even when i click add maybe crotchet or quaver

So....if you hit "N" on your computer keyboard, you should be able to put a one beat note on the first beat of a measure. You have to work left to right in each measure. Either notes or rests.
Have you read the Handbook or watched any tutorials to learn how note input works? When you type a letter or click in the score, you should definitely get a note. If you right click, you get a rest, maybe that's what you are doing wrong?
