Downloaded Scores don't display properly

I downloaded a version of Sinding's Rustle of Spring uploaded by CarlKoh in Nov 2014, apparently created in version 1.3. No matter how I change the settings when it opens to display as originally loaded or any of the new features, including autoplacement, new fonts etc., what I see is a really messed up score with many streches of full page spacing between staves, such as a single pair of staves at the top with pedal markings at the page bottom, slur lines going all over the place, and hairpins not lined up properly. I can drag many of the pedal marks up to be close the associated staff and the distance collapse but mostly it is the large amount of white space for no apparent reason. Nothing looks like the preview version that is displayed when the score is displayed from the library. Looks great in that image. Any idea on how to figure out why the downloaded score is messed up.

I took a closer look at the original... turns out there are many hidden elements. Many of the notes that are voice one in bass staff have been shifted onto the treble. But there appears to be duplication of these notes as voice 2 in the bass but made invisible. Not sure why other than perhaps allow for the pedal markings to appear under bass without repositioning. They are hidden but still set to play. In the fix you provided, some of the beams for these voice two notes are not hidden but the rest of the measure has all notes hidden. So if you hide hidden elements, all you see are beams without notes and stems. Can't comment on why this was scored as such.
