Writing Drum parts with in-between kicks /snares (1/16ths)

• May 5, 2021 - 21:28

Hi,
I'm new to Musescore but getting along with it pretty well thank to all the great tutorials on YT. What I can't find is anyone writing grooves that have hits in between the HH's.

My problem is, when I try to add a kick on, let's say the e of 3, it bumps me to the beginning of the bar. That creates a bunch of new rests and makes everything look pretty scrambled. - I should mention, I'm using the software to create exercises for my drum students so it's really important that things look clean and simple.

I think it's bumping me to the start of the bar because it's formatting the whole bar for the use of 1/16th notes. I guess I kind of understand that but, like I said, it looks busier than it needs to.

Can anyone help me figure out the easiest and cleanest way to go about this?

Thanks!

Take a minute to let https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/drum-notation sink in and see if it helps you out. Drum notation, due to its default multi-voice nature takes some getting used to. If you're instead wanting single-voiced drum notation (which is fairly common as well), then the link above should contain the information hints on how to change the drumset definition to behave in such a way.
